Ascott Martyr’s 150th Year Anniversary Celebration Featuring: Three Acres And A Cow
June 24 @ 7:00 pm BST
£11
An evening of words and song performed by Three Acres and a Cow, with additional contributions from Mark Pidgeon and the Sea Green Singers. This forms part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the ‘Chipping Norton Incident’ which saw 16 women (and two babies) from Ascott-under-Wychwood unjustly imprisoned in Oxford Gaol for demonstrating their support for agricultural labourers from the village who were striking for a living wage.
Connecting the Norman Conquest and Peasants’ Revolt with our housing crisis and climate change via the Enclosures and Industrial Revolution, the show draws a compelling narrative through the people’s history of England. Part TED talk, part folk club sing-a-long, come and share these tales as they have been shared for generations. This special show will feature additional material to mark the 150th anniversary of the Ascott Martyrs.
