SUMMARY:Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne @ John Peel Centre
DESCRIPTION:Welcome in the summer with us\, The East Anglian Traditional Music Trust! We have an amazing evening lined up\, with Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne plus support from Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer. \nCohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne is at the forefront of his generation of English folk musicians as both a powerful and commanding singer and a masterful player of the Anglo concertina and melodeon. Since bursting onto the scene in his teens\, Cohen has amassed a string of awards and nominations\, including a nomination for the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Horizon Award in 2018\, and has toured extensively across the UK and abroad\, both as a soloist and with the much-loved energetic trio Granny’s Attic. Expect traditional songs and tunes along with some self-penned material and a few surprises along the way. \nVicki Swan & Jonny Dyer effortlessly blend traditional material with contemporary sounds. Their performances showcase new interpretations of old songs alongside original self penned tunes and new contemporary songs that are entirely at home in the tradition. They have developed a sound that is both familiar and fresh. Strong believers in letting the music tradition live and breathe through sensitive interpretation\, Vicki and Jonny allow the melody to sing without any constraints.

SUMMARY:Patakas at Oak Folk
DESCRIPTION:Oak Folk is a special monthly-ish folk night\, hosted in a Norfolk bookshop. \nSomething magical happens when Joe and Will Sartin – known together as Patakas – play music together. Theirs are the kind of vocal harmonies that will leave you quaking in your boots and tingling down the spine. You can enjoy all this (and more!) at their Oak Folk session on Sunday July 5 2026. \nThough their aptitude for folk music is clearly in the genes (their dad was the late great Paul Sartin\, after all)\, they’re forging their own musical path – and are doing so with great aplomb. \nTheir first EP\, When You’re Ready\, is a poignant meditation of their childhood shaped by music \n“After the loss of our father in September last year\, we spent a lot of time reminiscing over childhood memories together with our eldest brother\, and the vast majority of those were times we spent playing or singing together. We realised that music has not only been something we’ve always loved doing\, but has also created so many strong bonds and incredible memories\, whether that was with direct family or friends that we consider family. So\, in this spirit\, we compiled the songs and tunes that we feel really captured strong memories for us.” \nBut their music goes far beyond reminiscing: it does exactly what folk music should do: tell the stories of tradition in ways that are innovative and very\, very much alive. \n‘Skilful and innovative… Joe Sartin’s vocals are strong and clear\, Will’s mandolin dexterous and fluid… Thresherman\, a 19th-century broadside\, is an album highlight on which Will’s beautiful mandolin lines trace silver around Joe’s excellent vocal as the tale is told of a hard-working family man.’ – Folk Radio
