Shovel Dance Collective’s Bonfire Night Celebration, Sheffield

November 5 @ 7:30 pm GMT

£6 – £11.25
Shovel Dance Collective stand together beneath a banner on a stoney beach.

Nurturing a passion for the folk musics of the British Isles and Ireland with experimental tendencies, they explore the ways in which traditional music holds queer histories, proto-feminist narratives and the voices of working people. They are simultaneously traditional and experimental, seeing folk music as a living communal activity, inviting and generous to those it speaks to.

Shovel Dance Collective have, since their conception, tried to take every opportunity to re-address our annual festivals, but have thus far ignored bonfire night. On November the 5th at Abbeydale Picture House, they intend to put that right. Beginning with a procession to the venue, they’ll be playing one off pieces in the round, celebrating bonfire night in a way that looks beyond history and into collective memory: exploring how the people have rebelled, rejoiced, loved, and lost throughout time.

The procession location meeting point is to be announced.
Minimum age: 14.
